Background Info
The conflict and fighting has officially been going on since 4th November 2020 and is destabilising not only Ethiopia but the rising Horn of Africa. The roots of the war can be traced to Ethiopia´s system of government with its multinational states. Ethiopia is a Federal Democratic Republic, composed of 10 regions which are divided along different ethnic lines, including Tigray with a poulation at approximately 7 million people. The struggle for sovereignity escalated as PM Abiy Ahmed Ali ordered a military offensive against the in September 2020 elected party TPLF in Tigray on the morning of November 4, 2020.

Health Crisis
Health facilities acrossEthiopia’s Tigrayregion havebeen looted, vandalised and destroyed in a deliberateand widespreadattack on healthcare, according toteams from Doctors Without Borders/Médecins SansFrontières (MSF). Of 106 health facilities visited by MSFteams between mid-December 2020 and early March2021, nearly 70% had been looted, and more than 30%had been damaged; just 13% were functioningnormally.In Adwa hospital in central Tigray, medical equipment,including ultrasound machines and monitors, had beendeliberately smashed. In the same region, the healthfacility in Semema was reportedly looted twice bysoldiers before being set on fire, while the health centrein Sebeya was hit by rockets, destroying the deliveryroom
